NAFDAC will support Japanese investors‎ to invest in Nigeria: Dr. Orhii

Director General of Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drug Administration or NAFDAC Dr. Paul Botwev Orhii has assured Japanese investors to Nigeria that his Agency will support them to invest in his country.
Dr. Orhii delivering his speech in Tokyo, Japan at the Nigeria-Japan Trade Exchange Forum also says all the raw materials they needed abound in Nigeria.
The speech cleared doubts on what many foreign investors have heard about NAFDAC's seemingly stiff procedures for product approval and registration, but the Agency's Director General told the Japanese investors at the forum to feel free to come to Nigeria and invest saying the product registration guidelines were simple to follow‎.
"Many investors who want to come to Nigeria have heard that if you don't take time, NAFDAC will reject your products or will not approve them, so they were afraid to even come, but after they listened to me, they were very excited. I enlightened them on the measures NAFDAC has taken to support and encourage (especially) the small and medium enterprises to survive in Nigeria", Orhii told me.

‎Dr. Orhii's speech was received with huge enthusiasm by potential investors from Japan to Nigeria who promised to explore the opportunities.

During separate visits to some Japanese business owners, they indicated interest in buying raw materials and semi processed products from Nigeria including sesame seeds, coconut oil, honey, soya beans and so many others produced at home.
"One man presented some samples of various very expensive cosmetics that he produced from pure organic coconut oil which he said he bought from Badagry in Lagos".

Dr. Orhii promised his Agency's readiness to ensure that the products leaving Nigeria for Japan will be safe, "‎we discussed how to make these raw materials free from contaminants like aflatoxins, pesticide residues etc, many of the Japanese investors plan to come to Nigeria soon for follow up visits", he adds.‎

While in Tokyo, Dr. Paul Orhii paid a courtesy visit on the Embassy of Nigeria and was received by His Excellency Inalegwu Victor Ogah who congratulated him for the unprecedented innovations and achievements he has recorded at NAFDAC, making Nigerians at home and abroad very proud.

Dr. Orhii also visited some metal recycling plants, one of which is a copper recycling plant; NAHFKENN Associates Plc Japan owned by a Nigerian, Chief Kennedy Fintan Nnaji who is also the President of Nigeria Union, Japan.

According to Orhii, nothing is useless in Japan. "It's interesting to know that even when vehicles break down, they will come and remove all the cables, tires and other rubber parts to recycle them, metals are not litered all over the streets and roads as we have at home".

In an interview with me, Dr. Orhii observes that there are very interesting business potentials in Japan, including the cosmetic industry. He says, his visit to Japan has been "very fruitful, rewarding and exciting" and will have a very positive impact on states like Benue where farmers who produce sesame seeds, soya beans and honey will have a huge market.

NAFDAC has organised enlightenment workshops ‎for farmers and exporters of agricultural products across the country on ways of preserving their produce and making them acceptable to other countries and with this visit to Japan by Dr. Paul Orhii, more business opportunities will open for Nigerian farmers.
