Outrage As President Buhari's Daughter, Hanan, Uses Presidential Jet For Private Photography Trip

In the latest of the controversy to trail her, Hanan on Thursday attended an event to photograph a Durbar by Rilwanu Adamu, Emir of Bauchi, in one of the jets in the presidential fleet.

Nigerians have expressed outrage over the decision by the Nigerian Government to authorise the use of a jet from the presidential fleet to fly President Muhammadu Buhari's daughter, Hanan, on a private trip to Bauchi.
Recall that Hanan recently ordered the Department of State Services to unlawfully arrest and detain a Delta State-based businessman, Anthony Okolie, for 10 weeks after he legally purchased an MTN telephone line from a registered outlet in Asaba, the state capital.
The mobile number was previously owned and used by Hanan but later recycled for sale by the network provider after being dormant for a while.
After noticing that the number was in use elsewhere, the young lady, who is a graduate of Photography from Ravensbourne University, London, reported the matter to the DSS and ordered the arrest and detention of Okolie.
Failing several times to appear at the DSS office to give any statement to support her claims, the secret police eventually released the young businessman after 10 weeks in unlawful detention.
In the latest of the controversy to trail her, Hanan on Thursday attended an event to photograph a Durbar by Rilwanu Adamu, Emir of Bauchi, in one of the jets in the presidential fleet.
As a result of the act, Nigerians especially social media users have continued to rain hard knocks on Hanan and the Presidency for allowing her use a presidential jet for a private trip.
Under standard practice, only the President, First Lady, Vice-President, Senate President, Speaker, Chief Justice of Nigeria, former Presidents and a Presidential delegation are allowed to use the presidential jet.
Before wrestling power from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, the All Progressives Congress – dangling a mantra of change and a 'blast from the past' before Nigerians – promised to dispose some of the jets in the Presidential fleet due to the expensive nature of maintenance.
But despite those lofty promises, only two helicopters out of 10 were given to the Nigerian Air Force while two presidential aircrafts previously put up for sale had yet to be discarded as of 2018.
Under the 2020 national budget, around N8.5bn has been earmarked for maintenance of jets in the Presidential fleet.
Expressing displeasure at the use of one of the jets for a private trip by President Buhari's daughter, a Twitter user, Young Otutu, said, "Lest we forget: The daughter of the president who promised not to allow unwarranted spending in governance, Hanan Buhari is busy flying Airforce 1 to go greet dignitaries and their wives with DSS securities, all on tax payers funds. Lest we forget."
Another Twitter user identified as Dr Dbanj, said, "In what capacity is she being received at the airport? What kind of waste is this? If Npower could render so many generals jobless in these streets, yet this one flight could have kept them going for one month.
"Guess this was why we refused to sell any part of the fleet."
Also enraged by the incident, @Kabir_kb1 said, "So, Hanan Buhari is now cruising with our Presidential jet.
"Though we were told in 2016 that there was a plan to sell them in order to reduce cost, but now his daughter, despite the fact that he's regarded as the "Man of Integrity" is using one of them."
However, defending Hanan's usage of the aircraft, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said that there was no big deal in the act.
According to him, President Buhari informed the National Security Adviser of the move before his daughter embarked on the trip to Bauchi.
He said, "It's true that a member of the First Family was flown to Bauchi on a mission duly authorised. It wasn't an impromptu or improper trip because it followed normal procedure.
"The Presidency informed the National Security Adviser of the mission who in turn informed the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet.
"The normal practice in existence for a long time is that the Presidential Air fleet is available to the President and the first family and four others. These four are the Vice President, the Senate President the Speaker and any other person(s) authorised by the President."
But condemning the act, rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, said the use of the Presidential jet by Buhari's daughter amounts to an abuse of office and a waste of resources.
He stated, "Buhari is only fooling himself and his supporters with this fake integrity."

Regina King kicks off production on One Night in Miami
Regina King has officially begun production on her directorial debut in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Oscar-winning actress announced last July that she would be stepping behind the camera for One Night in Miami, an adaptation of Kemp Powers's 2013 play of the same name.
King's film will be set in February 1964, on the night boxer Cassius Clay became world heavyweight champion following a shock victory over Sonny Liston.
The fictional narrative will be focused on the aftermath of the fight, with Clay, civil rights activist Malcolm X, soul singer Sam Cooke, and American football player Jim Brown meeting for hours at a Miami motel.
Kingsley Ben-Adir will portray Malcolm X, Riverdale star Eli Goree will play boxing great Clay before he became known as Muhammad Ali, Leslie Odom, Jr. will feature as Sam Cooke, while Aldis Hodge will take on the part of Jim Brown.
"One Night in Miami is a love letter to black manhood that powerfully explores themes of race, identity and friendship," King told Deadline. "We're so excited to have Kingsley, Eli, Aldis, and Leslie in the lead roles showing a different side of these iconic men."
Powers penned the screenplay for the project. His original play explored the possibility of what the successful men of colour may have discussed as they fought for equality in the face of racism and white supremacy during the 1960s civil rights movement.
In the past, If Beale Street Could Talk star King has directed episodes of TV shows such as Scandal, Shameless, The Good Doctor, and This Is Us, but One Night in Miami marks her first time helming a feature film.

Nine Common Traits You Find In Successful People

                             www.ASKiNGRADiO.com | Entertainment | February 9

Success is something we all dream to achieve and work hard for. We set goals and we train to become successful in life and be proud of what we have achieved. Unlike most words, success has a different meaning for everyone and everyone’s story of success is quite unique. However, what remains common are the traits possessed by such people that make them stand apart in a crowd. Many people have tried observing the qualities of successful people and here’s a list of the same:

1. BEING A RISK TAKER

A lot of people fear rejection and failure and this often comes in the way of taking risks. To be successful, you must be unique from the general crowd which is why you must be willing to take some kind of risk. The world is constantly changing which is why we have to take risks and work with new elements.

2. FOLLOWING YOUR PASSION

When you follow your passion you get to feel pleasure and satisfaction. Only when you do something that you love, do you get the feeling of immense pride. It allows us to put in our one hundred percent efforts and not just do it for the sake of something or someone else. It is commonly quoted that if you love what you do, you wouldn’t have to work a single day in your life.

3. BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR OWN ACTIONS

The most important quality would be to take responsibility for your actions. The easiest thing to do is to blame people for your failures but there is grace in accepting and working on your flaws. You must realize that the only person responsible for your life and decisions is YOU!

4. FOCUS ON PARTICULAR GOALS

Realistic goals are the only way you can go about working for your future. Setting goals that are attainable will make it easier for you to work with great zeal and energy. Keep yourself focused on what you wish to achieve through your goals and you’re already halfway through!

5. WORK ON IMPROVING YOURSELF AND YOUR SKILLS

A successful person is only good at what he does because nothing stops him from gaining more knowledge and improving his skills. To remain on the top of the ladder, it is a must to improve and hone your skills.

6. BEING FLEXIBLE

To be successful one of the main requirements is you should be willing to show some flexibility. Without being limitless or not having restrictions is the only way one can succeed. This allows you to come to terms with your fears, insecurities, and self-doubt; making it a very important ingredient for attaining success in life.

7. HARMONIZING YOUR NEEDS WITH THOSE OF OTHERS

If you wish to be successful, it is time to understand what needs most people have and try to create solutions for them. It is a joyful experience to help others with our knowledge and create something that will definitely have an impact on society. In the end, it is about the difference that you are able to make.

8. INVEST IN OTHER PEOPLE

You must take out time to invest in others and help them grow in life. A successful person is a leader that enjoys motivating others and empowering them. It is also their responsibility to take care of the people around them.

9. BEING THANKFUL

Gratitude is an extremely powerful feeling and most successful people have a feeling of gratitude towards life. It allows them to be optimistic and realize the real worth of what they have been given. Being thankful is very important for all of us, and is a quality that takes you closer to being successful in life.

2019: I’m not neutral, I want Buhari out, Obasanjo says

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo [Photo credit: Ventures Africa]
A former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has denied media reports (not PREMIUM TIMES) that he has decided not to support any candidate for next year's presidential election in Nigeria.
Mr Obasanjo made the clarification in a statement on Sunday by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi.
'While Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is in Cairo to attend the maiden edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), of which he is Chairman of the Advisory Council, his attention has been drawn to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) with the headline "Atiku: Obasanjo Shifts Political Gear to Neutral."
"It is disingenuous, if not malicious, for anyone to suggest that Chief Obasanjo was being neutral when he chose not to use the Owu Convention as a platform for political campaign but instead adopt a communal and familial approach in talking to members of his Owu family," Mr Akinyemi said.
"For the records, and as accurately reported by some media organisations, what the former president said at the convention in Iwo was that while he would not impress any candidates on them, Nigerians should vote for credible candidates who will drive growth and development and make their lives better than it is now."
He explained that Mr Obasanjo's statement did not suggest his neutrality, as he believes that, "only a fool will sit on the fence or be neutral when his or her country is being destroyed with incompetence, corruption, lack of focus, insecurity, nepotism, brazen impunity and denial of the obvious."
"Chief Obasanjo is no such fool nor is he so unwise," the aide said.
The former president, who already declared his support for opposition presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, said he would not sit on the fence when he needs to be out and active for people to know where he stands in the best interest of Nigeria.
He urged Nigerians to stop complaining about their current situation and advised that they should and go out to get "beneficial change," stating that, "they must know that such change will not come if they remain inactive just complaining and complacent and they allow themselves to be deceived by sycophants and enemies of Nigeria."
"If they do not become active and get much needed change of the current administration to a government that will improve the economy, regain the confidence of investors and generally drive growth, development and economic progress with security, what is coming will be much worse than what Nigerians currently suffer."
Mr Obasanjo said he would continue to speak against poor governance and nobody should manipulate his stance on the 2019 presidential election.
Mr Obasanjo was an ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he supported for the 2015 general elections.
He has, however, accused the president of nepotism, poor performance, and sectionalism and declared his support for Mr Abubakar.
The presidency has however repeatedly asked Nigerians to ignore Mr Obasanjo, saying Mr Buhari's performance in office was enough to earn him re-election.
Mr Buhari also accused Mr Obasanjo of corruption while in office.

2018 Calabar Carnival to host over 30 countries

@

Calabar Carnival

Mr Gabe Onah, Chairman, Calabar Carnival Commission, says the 2018 edition of the carnival will host over 30 countries and 25 states.

Onah made the disclosure on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar.

He told NAN that the 32-day annual street party which would commence on Dec. 1 till Jan. 1, 2019, would be used to tell the story of the African race through the theme `Africanism'.

Onah listed some of the countries to include Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, Greece, Brazil, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Rwanda, among others.

He said that the countries had indicated interest to participate in the 2018 edition of the carnival.

The chairman also mentioned some of the states to include Kano, Nasarawa, Anambra, Imo, Kaduna, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Kogi Enugu and others..

Onah said that the carnival brought tourists from all over the world to the state.

According to him, Calabar has been the melting point of Africa's hospitality due to its diverse tourism events and sites, the green environment and the warm hospitality of the people.

"The 2018 edition of the carnival will play host to over 30 countries and 25 states. Most of the countries will have their own band on Dec. 29, scheduled for the International Carnival.

"Top of our priority is security. I can assure tourists coming in for the event of adequate security because we are liaising with security agencies to ensure we have a peaceful and fun-filled celebration.

"Calabar carnival is a platform that has made itself a template to measure any beautiful art of festival or tourism product because all the ingredients that make for a tourism product are present here.

"The carnival is a pull factor that brings visitors and tourists alike to the clean and beautiful city of Calabar. The value of any event of this nature is seen through the socio-economic impact on the people.

"See the number of hotels that have sprang up since the last carnival; the number of people on the streets; the buying and selling and exchange of contacts and all of that,'' Onah said.

He said that the costumes for the carnival were now locally-made, saying that the carnival band leaders were in partnership with the state garment factory to look inward for the production of the costumes.

Onah said that with 50,000 revelers on the street of Calabar during the carnival, the garment factory could not afford to wish for a better market.

Senate Won't Find Peace Until Ex-Govs Stop Making It A Retirement Home-Donald Duke

"The Senate won't find peace until former governors stop making it a retirement home," Duke wrote.

Former Governor of Cross River State and presidential candidate, Donald Duke, has blamed former governors in the Senate for the troubles in the house.

According to him, much of the crisis witnessed in the National Assembly may not be farfetched from the fact that many governors, after leaving office, become Senators and go on to hold such positions for a long time.

In a tweet via his handle, @Donald_Duke, he wrote: "The Senate won't find peace until former governors stop making it a retirement home."

The National Assembly, in recent times, has been at the forefront of intrigues following the invasion by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday, as well as political activities surrounding Bukola Saraki, Senate President and former Governor of Kwara State, as well as Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State..
